This page reproduces the Do’s and Don’ts for investors dealing with a Research Analyst, as referenced in SEBI’s Master Circular for Research Analysts, as amended and updated by SEBI from time to time — including when dealing with Siddharth Shrivastava, Proprietor of Alpha Point Research.
Do’s
- Deal with a SEBI-registered Research Analyst. Always verify that the Research Analyst is registered with SEBI. Do not rely solely on a website, advertisement, social media profile or message claiming that an individual or organisation is “SEBI registered.”
- Check the registration number. Verify the Research Analyst’s registration details through the official SEBI intermediary database, and make sure the registration details correspond with the entity or individual you intend to deal with.
- Read the disclosures. Before acting on any research recommendation, read the relevant disclosures and understand the nature of the research service. Do not skip the regulatory information simply because the recommendation looks attractive.
- Understand the service before subscribing. Read the applicable service description, fees, Terms & Conditions, Refund Policy, risk disclosures, RA Agreement, and any other applicable documents. If something is unclear, ask before subscribing.
- Pay through proper banking channels. Pay research service fees only through the Research Analyst’s authorised payment channels, and maintain payment records and receipts.
- Ask questions. Before acting on a research recommendation, ask relevant questions and clear your doubts with the Research Analyst — you are entitled to understand the research service you are paying for.
- Consider the risks. Understand that securities markets can move against your expectations. Consider your financial circumstances, investment objectives and risk tolerance before taking an investment or trading decision.
- Verify before buying or selling. Before buying or selling securities based on a research recommendation, check the applicable research communication and relevant disclosures. Research should be evaluated — not followed blindly.
- Keep your account credentials private. Protect your trading, demat and banking credentials. Your passwords, OTPs, PINs and other confidential information should remain confidential.
- Use the grievance mechanism when required. If you have a complaint relating to the services of a Research Analyst, first use the Research Analyst’s prescribed grievance redressal mechanism. Where applicable, unresolved complaints may be escalated through the prescribed regulatory mechanisms, such as SEBI SCORES and Online Dispute Resolution (ODR).
- Use registered channels only. Communicate only through the official contact details published on this website.
Don’ts
- Do not give your money to the Research Analyst for investment. A Research Analyst provides research services. Do not hand over funds to the Research Analyst for investing or trading on your behalf.
- Do not believe guaranteed-return claims. Be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed profits, assured returns, fixed returns, risk-free trading, guaranteed accuracy, or recovery of previous losses. Market outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
- Do not follow luring advertisements. Do not make an investment or subscription decision simply because an advertisement creates urgency, excitement or fear of missing out. Read the information. Verify the source. Then decide.
- Do not be influenced by limited-period incentives or gifts. Do not subscribe simply because someone offers a limited-period discount, incentive, gift or similar inducement. A financial decision should be based on the suitability and nature of the service — not a countdown timer.
- Do not share trading or banking credentials. Never share trading account passwords, demat account credentials, bank passwords, OTPs, UPI PINs, card PINs, or other confidential authentication details with a Research Analyst or anyone claiming to represent one.
- Do not pay into personal accounts. Payments should only be made to the Research Analyst’s official, disclosed business channels — never to an individual’s personal account.
- Do not assume SEBI registration means guaranteed performance. SEBI registration indicates regulatory registration. It does not guarantee the performance of a Research Analyst or assure returns to investors.
- Do not treat research as personal investment advice. Research recommendations should not be treated as a substitute for understanding your own financial circumstances. The client remains responsible for the investment or trading decision.
- Do not rely on social media claims alone. Screenshots, testimonials, forwarded messages, profit figures and anonymous claims are not substitutes for proper research and regulatory verification. Always verify the source.
Before You Subscribe
Ask yourself:
- Have I verified the SEBI registration?
- Have I read the service terms?
- Do I understand the fees?
- Do I understand the risks?
- Have I read the disclosures?
- Have I verified the payment details?
- Have I understood that returns are not guaranteed?
If the answer to any of these is No, stop and verify before proceeding.
